Striking a Balance Between Academic Study and Extracurricular Practice

"We live and learn, but we don't live to learn," as the saying goes. However, people nowadays have divergent opinions on students' participation in social practice. Supporters argue that actively engaging in social events benefits youngsters, while others frown upon it when they have witnessed students prioritize social assignments over their studies.

As far as I am concerned, social practice is a double-edged sword. Holding the handle of it is holding the key to success and better achievement. However, if students falsely hold the blade, their academic study will be severely interrupted. Therefore, I strongly support young people to participate in social practice regularly and also set a time limit to strike a balance between academic study and extracurricular activities is crucial.

First and foremost, there are several merits why I encourage students to participate enthusiastically in social activities. It is conceivable that by attending social events, students can gain valuable social experiences and skills which can't be acquired in classrooms and serve as an essential supplement to on-campus study. Moreover, social practice can broaden their horizons and strengthen awareness of social responsibility because students today are citizens of tomorrow. One day they will be pillars that support the whole society. So It is of great importance to cultivate responsibility in them.

Secondly, the demerit of spending too much time on social practice is self-evident, for it may burden the study. It's universally acknowledged that students' obligation is acquiring knowledge that paves the road to future careers. And the school curriculum is usually full of significant academic subjects, such as biology, languages, and maths. For example, it would be challenging in high school to squeeze time for social practice because of the hectic timetable. Consequently, participating in social courses would inevitably interfere with students' studies and result in poor performance in standardized examinations.

Last but not least, efforts should be made in more ways than one to balance social engagement and academic study. On the aspect of our students, we should set a schedule for our research and the involvement of social practice, on which we base our decision and arrange our time smartly. When we want to unwind and escape from the tiring academic study, we need to check our timetable and ensure we finish all our compulsory school assignments beforehand. As for teachers and social practice organizers, they ought to tell students the consequences of spending too much on social events, and the skill of making balance is needed during this process. Moreover, when students find it challenging to balance this relationship individually, we can seek teachers, organizers, and other experienced people for suggestions.

In conclusion, considering those mentioned above, it is necessary for students to engage in the social practice for various advantages. However, the problem caused by it also needs the attention of students, teachers, and society. By and large, only by striking a balance between academic study and extracurricular practice with joint efforts can students embrace a bright future.
